May 18, 2020 | 131 Hit

K-Culture at Home #3

The third edition of K-Culture at Home presents a stunning original performance recording released by the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company for just 48 hours, featuring a dance retelling of Ravel's iconic Boléro!

Plus, as an extra bonus, acclaimed pianist Seong-jin Cho also performs live on Facebook works from his new album, The Wanderer, as part of a World Health Organization COVID-19 fundraiser on Thursday, May 7 at 9 a.m. (EST), with a recording available afterwards. Details below.
Thoroughly Desperately
Korea National Contemporary Dance Company

Thoroughly precise yet desperately energetic, the collective movement of a world-class dance team captures the spirit of an ensemble reinterpretation of Ravel’s iconic Boléro. Two teams of musicians face off on either side of the stage, as if in confrontation, framing the pop culture-infused action in between. At the heart of this vibrant sensory experience is the instinct to survive, expressed on a basic level shared by all human beings, through music and dance.

The Korea National Contemporary Dance Company (KNCDC), established in 2010, is Korea's only nationally-funded contemporary dance company, led by Artistic Director Nam Jeongho. In collaboration with leading Korean and international artists, KNCDC aspires to produce and present works that reach out to audiences of all generations and sectors of society with a variety of themes that touch on history, society, and daily life in today's complicated world. KNCDC also aims to make contemporary dance fun, rather than abstruse, with performances that the audience can intuitively understand, sympathize with, and enjoy. The company also hopes to reach out to a broader audience by offering performances that can enjoyed again and again, expanding the contemporary dance community in the process.
