The Befriend Korea Program (BKP) offers groups of all types the opportunity to expand their understanding of Korea, including an overview of Korean culture, art, history, society, international relations, pop culture trends, and more, through a live presentation, discussion, and (in the case of in-person visits) a self-guided tour of the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. (KCCDC) and its various exhibition spaces. Programs are led by experienced KCCDC staff and are tailored for youth, student, or adult groups, as well as topics of interest when possible. Visits can also include optional age-appropriate cultural activities for youth groups. Regardless of your particular interests or level of experience when it comes to Korea, BKP will help expand your horizons and stimulate your curiosity about the world!  Interested groups can experience BKP either through an in-person visit to the KCCDC or as a virtual presentation online from any location. In-person visits offer the most rich and comprehensive experience, but online programs still feature the essential presentation and discussion portion of the program, including multimedia, live interaction, and Q&A. In-person visits typically last 60-90 minutes and virtual programs 30-60 minutes, but shorter versions are possible. In-person visitors can also experience any KCCDC exhibitions currently on display, view our permanent cultural spaces, and pick up free informational materials on Korea following the presentation and discussion portion of the program. (Exhibitions and displays change from time to time, so you may wish to review the schedule of exhibitions on our website to maximize your visit.) Visitors may also want to plan ahead to round out their day with a stop at the Old Korean Legation, a historical space and museum located in the nearby Logan Circle neighborhood (visits there should be scheduled separately and directly with the Legation).  Local Korean language classes can also inquire about a sponsored visit opportunity, offering Korean cultural workshops with local experts that emphasize in-depth contextual knowledge, rather than basic introductory presentations.  Please complete the form at the link below to sign up for a BKP presentation, then follow up with an email to our staff to confirm the arrangements for your visit (details below). In some special cases, our staff may be able to visit local groups to deliver BKP presentations at their venue (please inquire).  Finally, walk-in visitors can always explore the KCCDC at their own pace without participating in BKP during regular hours (10 AM - 12 PM and 1 PM - 5 PM, Monday - Friday). Please review the general KCCDC Visitor Guidelines for more information. Groups of 10 or more are kindly asked to contact us in advance of their visit. Click HERE to request a group presentation!  In the case of both online and in-person programs, groups should be aware of the following important terms and conditions:  1.Groups should first complete the sign up form above at least 2 weeks prior to their requested program date, and then follow up with an email to program coordinator Adam Wojciechowicz at awoj@koreaembassy.org (or call 202-587-6168). Requests will then be confirmed upon receipt of a reply from our staff. Shorter-notice requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis (please inquire).  2.While the KCCDC makes every effort to accommodate groups' availability, certain dates and times may be unavailable or already taken. In addition, although rare, urgent embassy matters may sometimes arise that require confirmed presentations to be canceled and rescheduled.  3.All participants should be aware that, unless they explicitly request otherwise, photos and videos of participants may be taken during the program and used for KCCDC promotional materials and/or published to social media or our website.  4.Groups that include minors (under age 18) are welcome, but should include an appropriate number of adult chaperones or supervisors.  5.All visitors take responsibility for their personal possessions and safety when participating in an in-person visit.  Please also review the general KCCDC Visitor Guidelines for any additional general terms or updates. 

The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. is a longtime participant in the Embassy Adoption Program (EAP), which pairs local embassies with elementary and middle school classrooms for a series of cultural workshops and lessons throughout the school year. Presented in partnership with District of Columbia Public Schools and Washington Performing Arts, EAP itself has a long history of providing DC public school children with valuable cultural experiences and knowledge as they learn about the countries of the world first hand.  In 2023-24, the KCCDC is working with four classes of fifth graders. Monthly visits include an introduction to Korean history, art, and culture, craft workshops, Taekwondo lessons, language lessons, and more. The goal of the program is to provide students with an authentic, lasting, and substantive understanding of a range of important cultural aspects of Korea through interactive, experiential learning together with artists, teachers, and cultural experts.  Regular visits are not open to the public, but interested media are welcome to inquire about coverage opportunities.
