George Mason University's Department of Modern and Classical Languages is hosting a special event for its Critical Korean Cultural Studies, “K-pop, Cultural Capital, and Beyond,” Friday, 16 February 2024.

This conference aims to create a dynamic platform for critical readers, Korean studies scholars, and fandom-based-performers of K-pop to converge, exchange ideas, and catalyze collaborative efforts.

For a special lecture, renowned scholar and Professor Dong Yeun Lee from the Korea National University of Arts will explore the evolving landscape of Korean cultural influence and offer a unique lens into the global phenomena of K-pop and its cultural capital. The lecture will be followed by a panel on "Dance for Yourself: Toward an Ethnography of K-Pop Dance,” employing ethnographic methods to unravel the intricacies of its global reception. Also, concluding the conference on a vibrant note, the "K-pop Dance Performance", promises to deliver a visual and artistic dynamic of the K-pop culture on stage.

This event is open to the public and no RSVP is required.
