K-Cinema at Home: The Battle: Roar to Victory (Aug. 23 - 29)

synopsis

In 1920, as Korea continues to suffer Japanese colonial rule, the Korean Independence Army is tasked with delivering critical funds to the Korean Provisional Government in Shanghai. During the operation, Hae-chul (Yoo Hae-jin) is reunited with Jang-ha (Ryu Jun-yeol), a young squad commander whose mission is to defend Samdunja village. The two unite their forces to route the Japanese at Samdunja, but make themselves tagets in the process. Hae-chul meanwhile suspects that Jang-ha’s mission isn’t over yet, and that the young soldier is pursuing a dangerous ulterior mission.

Based on the actual battle of Bongo-dong in 1920, which remains a great victory of the Korean independence history, director Won Shin-yeon's The Battle: Roar to Victory siezes upon the red-hot genre of historical films in Korean cinema to tell a compelling and thrilling take that is little-known outside of Korea.
