K-Cinema at Home: The Witch: Subversion (July 20 - 26)
synopsis
10 years ago, young Ja-yoon (Kim Da-mi) escaped from a mysterious government facility in a freak incident. With no memory of her past, she is taken in by a kind couple who raise her as their own. Ja-yoon grows up to be a bright high school student and competes in a nationally televised audition program to help her struggling family. But her public appearance on the program leads to the appearance of several strange figures in her life. Nobleman (Choi Woo-shik) constantly lurks in the background as Dr. Baek (Cho Min-soo) and Mr. Choi (Park Hee-soon) claim to have been searching for her for years. Ja-yoon’s life falls into turmoil as these interlopers turn her seemingly ordinary life upside down and she begins to discover her own dark powers.
Director Park Hoon-jung's 2018 dark horror fantasy The Witch: Subversion earned a slew of awards and international attention for its refined take on the genre, including screenings at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival and Oporto International Film Festival, plus multiple best new actress awards for young newcomer Kim Da-mi at the Grand Bell Awards, Buil Film Awards Seoul Awards, and Blue Dragon Film Awards.
Note: This film is for mature audiences due to graphic violence.
