Exploring Hanji and Joomchi Crafts
- Post DateJul 13, 2026
Last week (July 9–10), the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. (KCCDC) hosted the K-Culture Talk & Workshop: Exploring Hanji and Joomchi Crafts, led by artist Esther Jihye Cho.
The program began with a lecture introducing the history, cultural significance, and artistic value of hanji, Korea's traditional handmade paper. Participants then took part in a hands-on workshop where they explored joomchi, a traditional papermaking technique that transforms hanji into textured works of art. Through the program, participants gained a deeper appreciation for the beauty, versatility, and cultural heritage of Korean paper crafts while creating their own unique joomchi artworks.
This version reads more smoothly for a website article and emphasizes both the educational and hands-on aspects of the program.
