K-Cinema at Home: Juror 8 (Dec. 13 – 19)

synopsis

As Korea's first ever jury trial gets underway, eight ordinary citizens have been called upon to weigh a murder case. Everyone from judge Kim Joon-kyeom (Moon So-ri) on down seems to have a presumtion of guilt—everyone, that is, except for Juror 8. Idealistic young entrepreneur Kwon Nam-woo (Park Hyung-sik) is as new to the process as his fellow jurors, but he's not about to bow to pressure and send an innocent person to prison. His convictions and willingness to question authority might just upend the legal system and redefine justice.

Based on true events, director Hong Seung-wan's 2019 film Juror 8 (배심원들), a historical and legal mashup with a light heart, won over audiences with it's charm and compelling look back on an important chapter in Korea's modern development. The film also earned newcomer Park Hyung-sik the Best New Actor award at the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards and the Popular Star Award at the 40th Blue Dragon Film Awards.
