The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. (KCCDC) is pleased to present TDC 69: A Global Typography Design Exhibition in collaboration with renowned international design organization the Type Directors Club (TDC), showcasing more than 100 diverse typographic works of art, on view November 6, 2023 through January 5, 2024.

TDC 69 features the latest award-winning pieces from the TDC’s annual contest while also highlighting Korean typography designs, including several current and past award-winning works by Korean artists. The exhibition serves as a gateway for audiences to explore current trends in global typography and this year to also appreciate the unique artistic features of the Korean writing system, Hangeul.

The TDC Director Carol Wahler will discuss the exhibition at the KCCDC on January 5, 2024 during extended evening hours coinciding with the local community event Art Walk Dupont from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Extended hours for Art Walk Dupont will also be held on December 21; this collaborative event brings together an array of DC-based cultural institutions in Washington, D.C. for evening openings, engaging talks, and special programs throughout the Dupont circle neighborhood.

As the 69th edition of the TDC Typography Awards, this collaboration marks the beginning of a worldwide exhibition tour scheduled to travel to major cities globally after its debut at the KCCDC in Washington, D.C.

Exhibition participants include professional designers and graphic design students from around the world whose submissions of typography, lettering, and type design works undergo meticulous evaluation by a panel of expert judges. The award-winning and distinguished works are then exhibited in collaboration with museums, educational institutions, and design organizations worldwide, including in the United States, South Korea, Canada, China, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Spain, and Vietnam.

Founded in 1946 in Manhattan, New York, the TDC has earned global recognition and prestige for its commitment to promoting the originality and excellence of typography. Annually, it hosts competitions to select outstanding works that reflect contemporary trends in typography design, fostering the advancement of lettering and typeface design.
