Ara Koh

Lifted Surface

Sand-casted glaze, 2021

Ara Koh’s Lifted Surface questions the relationship between human-made architecture and nature through the ambiguous materiality of clay manipulated by various manual processes. Employing silica sand, glaze, and multiple aggregated layers, Koh creates abstract landscape forms that beg for a closer look as they tell a story of Earth’s time.

Jean Jinho Kim

Cool Vibes

Aluminum, industrial paint, 2021

Jean Jinho Kim’s colorful vertical sculpture Cool Vibes represents a wish to recover and celebrate life in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic amid humanity’s everyday struggles and resiliency. Kim utilizes found objects and pliable household materials to create 3-dimensional visual art that represents a sense of perseverance, hope, and joy through its sheer physical presence and chromatic vibrancy.

Art All Night, taking place this year over the course of two nights September 24-25, celebrates visual and performing arts across Washington, D.C., including painting, photography, sculpture, crafts, fashion, music, dance, theater, film, and poetry events.
