“Through my work I
hope to raise questions about how we build and keep human connections
alive and how we create emotional bonds to places in a constantly changing and
multicultural time and space.”
Kyoung eun Kang was born in
South Korea and currently works in New York City. She received her BFA and MFA
in painting from Hong-ik University in Seoul and her MFA from Parsons, The New
School for Design, New York, N.Y. Her solo exhibitions and projects
include 1402 Seok-dong (NURTUREart, N.Y.), Every
Morning and Every Evening (SOHO20’s +/- Project Space, N.Y.), Omaha
Diary I (BRIC Project Room, N.Y.), Steps (HERE Arts Center,
N.Y.), and Happy Birthday (A.M. Richard Fine Art Gallery
Project Room, N.Y.). Her group exhibitions and performances have been featured
at Queens Museum, N.Y., Socrates Sculpture Park, N.Y., A.I.R. Gallery, N.Y.,
Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery in Australia, the Museum of Imperial City in
Beijing, China, and Seoul Museum of Art in South Korea. She received the Grand
Prize at the 8th Annual Na Hye-seok Grand Exhibition and the
Special Prize at the 23rd Korea Art Grand Exhibition at the
National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul. She is a recipient of fellowships
from the New York Foundation for the Arts, N.Y. ,BRIC Media Arts, N.Y. and A.I.R. gallery, N.Y. Kang
has participated in residencies including the Elizabeth Murray Artist
Residency, N.Y., I-Park Foundation, C.T., ChaNorth, N.Y., New York Art
Residency and Studios (NARS) Foundation, N.Y., Lower East Side Rotating Studio
Program, N.Y., Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, N.E., and Skowhegan School
