The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. proudly presents a special exhibition of winning entries from the Talk Talk Korea 2019 global content contest, an annual competition that invites Korea fans from around the world to create art, photography, multimedia, and stories that capture their unique and memorable experiences of Korea. Come experience the tremendous diversity, passion, and talent of the Korean pop culture fan community internationally through a variety of fun and creative projects presented in a unique culture cafe setting at the Korean Cultural Center.

Talk Talk Korea is a global contest featuring Korea-related original content across a range of creative formats and topics. Buoyed by the global fandom of Hallyu, the umbrella term for all of Korean pop culture, the 2019 competition was held under the theme “Korea Lovers” and drew a combined 32,519 entries from 167 countries—the most since the contest debuted in 2014. Out of tens of thousands of entries, 184 were selected as prize-winning works, all of which will be on display or accessible in digital formats through this exhibition. Entries in this year’s competition were divided into seven categories: Talk about Korea, Hansik & I (related to food), Korean Song Recommendations, Illustrations of Peace, Speaking Korean, Webtoons, and Experiencing Korea.

Following the theme of passion for Korean culture abroad, the exhibition opening will also include a special K-Lecture program on the rise of Korean culture in America, with brief guest speaker talks, audience discussion, and Q&A. Emanuel Pastreich, Director of The Asia Institute and former professor at Kyung Hee University, will discuss what Korean culture has come to mean for Americans in his talk, “Korean Culture in America: Past, Present and Future.” The discussion will also touch on current trends in the Korean pop culture phenomenon.

Guests can also join in a special Korean Food Workshop to prepare and enjoy their own mini gimbap, the traditional Korean rice-and-seaweed rolls! All guests can also join in the Korean Cuisine reception following the presentation.

Talk Talk Korea is hosted by the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS), a subsidiary of Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All 184 prize-winning works can also be seen on the Talk Talk Korea homepage at www.korea.net/TalkTalkKorea/English
